1 Park Lane is a wellness centre in Allestree, Derby — a quiet, welcoming building providing confidential spaces for therapy and wellbeing work.
Inside, the rooms are beautifully decorated, light and airy, with a shared kitchen and a courtyard garden for a quiet moment before or after a session.
It is home to Wellness Counselling and Psychotherapy, with rooms available for other practitioners to hire as they open up.
History
1 Park Lane dates from the 17th century and is one of the original buildings of the old village, close to Allestree Hall, the former manor house in Allestree Park.
The village itself is much older. Its name is Norse and means “Adelard’s Dwelling”, and it appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Adelardestreu, held with the Manor of Mackworth. It later passed to the Touchet family and was bought in 1516 by John Mundy, a London goldsmith who went on to become Lord Mayor of London; his family held much of the area until 1781.
Park Lane is still the heart of that old village. Allestree’s conservation area was designated in 1991 around “the historic core of the village centred on what is now Park Lane, Cornhill and St Edmund’s Close”, and the county’s historic environment record notes a former blacksmith’s workshop on the Park Lane and Duffield Road corner, marked on Ordnance Survey maps from the 1880s into the 1920s.
